Robert C. Morrow has been involved with a variety of work involving woodworking, model building, and photography over the past 30 years.
Robert completed his undergraduate degree at St. Lawrence University in 1984 with a Bachelor of Science in Geology, and also having completed work to gain certification for teaching General and Earth Sciences in the middle and high school level.
After completing his undergraduate work Robert eventually started teaching in Special Education and attained his Masters Degree in Special Education from Southern Connecticut State University in 1995. He continued to teach Special Education to students with a variety of needs until 1999, at which point he returned to teaching sciences in the high school level.
Robert has continued to teach in public education, currently teaching Environmental Earth Sciences to 9th grade students, and single semester electives in Astronomy and Meteorology to 11th and 12th grade students.
As a woodworker Robert has focused on traditional Shaker designs and construction methods. His training and experience was developed from a great personal interest in woodworking and furniture design. Robert has visited several of the Shaker villages and viewed historic Shaker furniture to understand the design and construction methods used that have made these pieces heirlooms that will last for generations. Using solid hardwoods such as cherry, maple, oak, and walnut he has produced a variety of pieces including desks, tables, cabinets, clocks, and casework. In addition to these traditional pieces Robert also works with clients on an individual basis in the design and creations of pieces based on other furniture styles and traditions. Robert also crafts turned bowls using a variety of select woods with unique color and grain qualities.
Robert's interest in model aviation began at an early age and by his early teens he was building and flying radio control model aircraft. Over a span of more than 30 years now he has built model aircraft that include propeller airplanes, sailplanes, and also helicopters. The models range in size from as small as 2 foot to over 12 foot wingspans and are built from a variety of kits utilizing wood and/or composite materials as well as the newer ARF style kits that have gained popularity in recent years. In addition to building Robert is also an accomplished flyer with all 3 types of model aircraft, having learned basic flying skills as a teenager he has flown both competively and non-competively with propeller aircraft, sailplanes, and helicopters.
In addition to the skills in woodworking and model construction and model aviation Robert is an accomplished photographer. His interest in photography began at a very early age when his father would take him on nature walks in the area where they lived, letting him take pictures and learn how to use his father's camera (a twin lens Rolliflex). Robert's interest continued and in high school he was given his first camera, a 35 mm slr, and he began to discover his interest in landscapes and nature photography by capturing the wildlife and natural settings of the town where he lived. Robert continued with his interest, taking many classes and workshops locally as well as workshops in such locations as the Maine Photographics Workshops. His work and interest continued with a focus on the fine landscape image using large format equipment. Robert developed a range of work in his potfolio that includes not only his landscape work, but also wildlife, architectural, and portraiture. He has taught various workshops and classes on photography and the fine b&w print as well as now working with digital photography and the computer generated image.
Robert currently resides in Fairfield County, Connecticut with his wife Polly and their 2 young daughters.
